BetMGM takes pride in providing a safe and secure environment for online players. Its own Responsible Gaming pages say it aims to provide the world’s safest gaming platform.
As the online gaming world becomes ever more cognizant of its duty to protect patrons, that is no small undertaking.
The operator that is live in ten US states, including Pennsylvania and Michigan has worked alongside various associations, research institutes and counseling providers and highlighted three key areas that combine to ensure player safety. They list them as being Real Fairness, Real Security, and Real Prevention.
The Real Fairness part of the equation details BetMGM’s own commitment to fair play. It states that the operator works with independent arbitrators who assess the fairness of the games on offer.
It also outlines the work of online monitoring and investigative teams in order to prevent fraud and other criminal activity. It is a statement that shows the BetMGM understands that ultimately, it can only succeed as a company if its customers feel safe and fairly treated.
When it comes to the Real Security part, BetMGM talks about the huge scope of laws that it has to comply with, across a wide variety of jurisdictions. Independent regulators make frequent checks to confirm that technology such as random number generators function properly and that players’ money is safely held in segregated accounts.
They also make sure that personal data is securely protected.
Preventing Problem Gambling
For most people, gambling is a fun pastime; for a few, it can become a problem. BetMGM has a series of measures in place to help customers stay in control when playing. Real Prevention is a series of methods used by BetMGM to stop problem gambling before it starts.
The operator states that it is committed to spotting issues early and preventing them from escalating. It has a Responsible Gaming framework which puts measures in place to help customers play within their limits. There are three types of limits that players can put on their accounts: deposit limits, loss limits and time limits.
Deposit limits put a maximum threshold on the amount players are allowed to put into their accounts over a given period of time. This can be daily, weekly, or monthly.
Loss limits can also be set, placing an upper limit on a player’s wagering. Once that limit is reached, the player in question will not be allowed to play again during that timeframe. Again, this can be set on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
Time limits can be set to occur daily and simply place a maximum length of time that players may spend gaming on the site. In addition, there is a timeout function which players can activate if they feel they need to stay away from the tables for a period.
Once set in motion, this will lock players out of their accounts for at least 72 hours and can be extended for as long as a year. All the above controls can be found easily in your account settings. Players wishing too close their accounts permanently can do so by contacting customer services.
Preventing Underage Gambling
As required by law, BetMGM does not allow anyone under the age of 21 to gamble on its sites. To ensure this is the case, it always requires new players to provide proof of age when signing up.
The operator also has automatic I.D. procedures which take place after registration. They suggest that parents use child protection software to help prevent minors accessing gaming sites—recommending programs such as Cyberpatrol and Cybersitter.
BetMGM also states that you should contact them immediately, if you know someone who is under 21 and registered with them.
