MGM Resorts International and BetMGM said they are again partnering with the American Gaming Association for Responsible Gaming Education Month this September, pairing the campaign with a combined $320,000 contribution to responsible-gaming initiatives.
The package includes research funding through the International Center for Responsible Gaming, expanded sponsorships for state problem-gambling councils, support for the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline and a donation to the Evive Foundation. The AGA says its September education month is meant to promote gaming literacy, consumer education and employee training, while deepening partner efforts to advance understanding of responsible gambling.
GameSense, the responsible-gaming programme first developed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation and licensed to MGM Resorts in 2017, will remain visible in select NFL stadiums and MLB ballparks. It will also expand into Las Vegas NHL and WNBA arenas, with messages carried on LED ribbons and scoreboards during pre-game activities.
The companies said responsible-gaming messages will also appear on digital platforms, retail sportsbooks and the MGM Grand Live Dealer studio. BetMGM Sportsbook messaging will remind players to “take a time-out” and direct them to QR codes with additional tips and resources.
MGM Resorts said its Las Vegas marquees will carry GameSense and AGA content urging sports bettors to “Play Smart from the Start.” The companies also said they will continue comprehensive, research-based responsible-gaming training for employees and have certified more than 3,000 GameSense Advisors across more than 45 departments, including gaming and non-gaming resort areas.
Rhea Loney, BetMGM’s chief compliance officer, said RGEM gives the company a chance to highlight its player-protection work. Stephen Martino, MGM Resorts’ senior vice-president and chief compliance officer, said the milestone reflects employees choosing to take an active role in promoting responsible gaming.
